Digital Biker
This piece is a multimedia composition realized in Max/MSP, DIPS3 and Quartz Composer. A fixed media Electro acoustic piece composed using recordings of various bicycle sounds. i.e bells, stereo passing, cogs rotating, chains vibrating, etc was created. Various synthesis techniques are used in Soundhack to create new sounds from the source recordings. The visuals are created using Quartz Composer patches built specifically for the composition and rendered by DIPS (DIPSQCRenderer). 6 Quartz compositions were created and mixed together in real time using Midi input to control the DIPS Window object. Inputs have been published in the Quartz Files so as data can be passed to the Quartz Composer patches via the DIPSQCRenderer object to manipulate images, textures and lines. The data passed is amplitude levels at different frequencies contained in the audio being played back from MAX/MSP Buffer~ object. This is achieved using an MSP external called bark~ which takes audio input and outputs the amplitude of frequency at 25 bands across the audio spectrum. Also random data produced in Max is used to manipulate the composition. Therefore each time the composition is performed, different results are achieved.
The software used for the composition can be found clicking here.
